Frequently Asked Questions
Questions about the Parent Support Program
What will I do in the program?
The program consists of three modules:
Module 1: “What am I feeling?”
Module 2: “What do I need to know?”
Module 3: “What do I need to do?”
You will be able to select which modules and which activities you want to complete. Activities include interview videos, educational videos, writing activities, and other educational activities. You can choose which modules and/or activities are most relevant to you.
How long does the program take?
It is estimated to take approximately 3 hours to complete all the program activities. The program is self-paced and self-directed, so you can complete as much or as little of the program as you would like. You can return to the program as many times as you want.
Will the program save my progress?
No. If you plan on exiting the program and returning later, please keep track of which activities you have completed. The program will not save your progress.
Is the program evidence-based?
Yes! The program content and activities are based on research. Research studies have found the program is relevant and well-liked by parents and caregivers of trans and nonbinary youth. The program was tested in a randomized controlled trial and was effective at increasing knowledge about trans and nonbinary topics, affirming language, and parent self-compassion. How will my privacy be protected?
We will not collect any identifiable information about you. Therefore, your responses in the program are anonymous. We will not share de-identified responses from the program with anyone.
Questions about pre-program survey
What is the survey?
You will have the option to complete a three-minute survey before accessing the program to help us better understand who is accessing the program and what motivates them. We will also collect some basic demographic information about you and your trans or nonbinary loved one. You can also skip the survey and immediately access the program.
What kind of information will be collected about me?
Participant IP addresses will be collected to identify duplicate responses for data cleaning. No other identifying information will be collected. IP addresses will be deleted from the dataset after data cleaning is complete. We will not share de-identified responses from the survey with anyone besides our research team. The results of this study may be used in reports, presentations, or publications, but no identifiable information will be used.
